Visit Application

Description

Formerly Operating Uranium Mine and Mill Sites is a collaborative web mapping application developed by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) that displays the locations of legacy uranium mines and mill sites across New Mexico. This interactive dashboard shows 190 former uranium mines and 7 former uranium mills that were once operational but have since been abandoned, are no longer maintained, or are inactive, with detailed information accessible by clicking on individual site markers on the map. The application provides comprehensive data visualization through graphs and indicators, multiple navigation options including search by mine name and county selection, and detailed information about mine features, surface land status, and regulatory oversight. The dashboard serves as a crucial resource for understanding the environmental legacy of uranium mining in New Mexico, offering both summary analyses and detailed site-specific information to support ongoing remediation and monitoring efforts.
