Description

New Mexico Interactive Geologic and Hydrologic Map Viewer is a web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) application developed by the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (a research and service division of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology) to provide publicly accessible, up-to-date geospatial information on New Mexico’s natural resources. Through an intuitive ArcGIS (Environmental Systems Research Institute's geographic information system) interface, users can explore a wide array of thematic layers—such as mineral deposits, water quality monitoring sites, geologic formations, energy resources, and recreational areas—by simply toggling the Layer List and viewing corresponding legends that indicate mapping status (e.g., “Mapping is Complete” versus “Mapping in Progress”). The Basemap Gallery enables seamless switching between various background maps (topographic, satellite imagery, human geography, etc.), while the Search, Print, and Select-Export tools allow users to locate places by address or coordinates, produce customized map prints, and download selected datasets for further analysis.
