New Mexico's Interactive Plant List

The New Mexico Interactive Plant List is a comprehensive digital resource developed by the Office of the State Engineer (OSE) in collaboration with New Mexico State University's Agricultural Science Center and Innovative Media Research & Extension. This web-based application serves as an expert-recommended database of hundreds of low-water-use, native, and adaptive plants specifically selected to thrive in New Mexico's diverse climate conditions with limited supplemental watering. The interactive tool allows users to search and filter plants by multiple criteria including climate region, plant category (annual plants, cacti, groundcover, ornamental grasses, perennials, shrubs, trees, turfgrass, and vines), flower color, bloom season, sun exposure requirements, plant size, deciduous/evergreen classification, water requirements, wildlife attraction potential, and soil type compatibility. Each plant entry includes detailed information such as scientific nomenclature (genus and species), common names, plant type classification, and comprehensive descriptions covering growth characteristics, care requirements, and ecological benefits, making it an invaluable resource for landscape designers, gardeners, and anyone seeking to create visually appealing, water-conserving landscapes suited to New Mexico's arid environment.
