Description

OpenEnviroMap is a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS)-based web application developed by the New Mexico Environment Department that provides interactive mapping and data visualization tools. The application serves as a centralized platform for accessing critical environmental data layers with different versions focusing on specific data. This version of OpenEnviroMap provides data relating to methane emissions monitoring and oil and gas operations management. The application displays various environmental datasets including Air Quality Bureau (AQB) monitoring stations, air quality inspections, oil and gas well locations (both active and non-active), carbon dioxide (CO2) wells, injection wells, water wells, and methane hotspots, allowing users to visualize the spatial distribution of these environmental features across the state. Users can toggle different data layers on and off, adjust transparency levels, and explore detailed information about New Mexico's Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) Oil Conservation Division (OCD) wells, excess emissions reporting, and air quality violations. The interactive map interface enables environmental professionals, researchers, and the public to analyze relationships between industrial activities, particularly oil and gas operations, and environmental monitoring data to support informed decision-making regarding methane emissions management and air quality protection throughout New Mexico.
