Winter 2021–2022 Water-Level Elevation Map for the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area - Open-file Report - 625

This report presents groundwater monitoring data and analysis for the Albuquerque metropolitan area during winter 2021-2022, compiled by the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. The study maps water-level elevations in the Santa Fe Group aquifer system and analyzes changes in groundwater storage since predevelopment conditions (pre-1961). The dataset includes measurements from 68 wells across the region, interpolated using geostatistical methods to create comprehensive water-level surface maps. Key findings show water-level changes ranging from rises of up to 10 feet in some areas to declines of over 140 feet in others, with an estimated net loss of 1,342,900 acre-feet of water from storage since predevelopment. The analysis evaluates current groundwater conditions against water management criteria established by the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, including the 110-foot drawdown management level. The accompanying Excel file contains detailed water-level measurements, well locations, and elevation data used in the interpolation analysis, providing essential information for regional groundwater management and planning decisions.
