Native American Water Rights Settlement Project (NAWRS)

The Native American Water Rights Settlement Project (NAWRS) is a collection of documents that formalize recognition of Native American water rights in the United States. The project is supported by the Native American Rights Fund, the National Congress of American Indians and the Western States Water Council. Our funding partners include the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Foundation.

The documents are arranged alphabetically by settlement. This collection includes a Searchable Map which allows you to search by reservation/Tribe, state, hydrological unit and document type.

Find information about tribal water codes on the Native American Rights Fund Water Codes under the tab: Codes and Ordinances. You may also be interested in the collection: Law of the Rio Chama.
